| COMMISSIONER LAUNCHES 'BELIEVE' CAMPAIGN TO INSPIRE YOUNG FANS It’s time to believe again! MainStream Wrestling Entertainment (MSW) is launching a campaign reminding young fans of the importance of self-belief. New MSW commissioner and long-time ring announcer “Captain” Kirk Starratt, a.k.a. “The Voice of Maritime Wrestling”, initiated the “Believe” campaign. His aim is to inspire and empower young people to avoid pitfalls in life and make their dreams reality by believing in themselves and rejecting negative influences. Starratt believes we can fight back against social problems such as cyber bullying and prescription drug abuse that sometimes have deadly consequences by inspiring young people to believe in themselves. Starratt recognizes the positive impact professional wrestling has had on his life and making his own dreams reality. It wasn’t an easy road, dealing with the tragic deaths of several family members and friends along the way, working to overcome health issues and recovering from an injury that threatened to cut short his announcing career. As a child, along with a generation of young wrestling fans, he was inspired by the positive messages of the stars of the day, including Hulk Hogan, who urged fans to train, say their prayers, eat their vitamins and “believe in yourself.” Starratt believes professional wrestling can once again serve as a vehicle to send a positive message and inspire young fans. Starratt said MSW is in the business of making dreams come true, for both performers and fans alike. “When we’re losing our young people to totally preventable causes such as cyber bullying and prescription drug abuse, we have a major problem,” Starratt said. When you believe in yourself, you inspire others to believe in you and you’re empowered to help others who are struggling with low self-esteem or a lack of self-belief. “There will always be those people who want to undermine your self confidence by telling you you’re not smart enough, strong enough, big enough, pretty enough, to do something you want to do,” Starratt said. “Reject their negative messages and energy. You can accomplish whatever you set your mind to when you believe in yourself.” Starratt, 34, a native of Cambridge, Hants County, currently lives in Kings County, where for the past decade he has been an award-winning journalist with the Kings County Advertiser and Kings County Register. He has served as ring announcer for hundreds of live professional wrestling matches, working alongside top Maritime talent and some of the biggest names in wrestling history from around the globe. In 2009 and 2010, MSW hosted the largest tour itineraries in North America for an independent professional wrestling promotion, boasting a schedule second only to WWE, World Wrestling Entertainment. MSW celebrates its tenth anniversary presenting live shows in Windsor in 2011 and will reach the decade milestone of promoting live shows in Digby in 2012. The promotion celebrated its tenth anniversary in October 2010 with the Maritime Wrestling Expo at Halifax Exhibition Park. The event drew 2,037 fans and was headlined by WWE Hall of Fame legend Bret “Hit Man” Hart, a seven-time world heavyweight champion. More details concerning MSW's "Believe" Campaign will be released shortly. |
